Cruise Ships Casinos Act 2013 Commencement Day Notice 2014
The Minister responsible for lotteries has exercised the power conferred by section 3 of the Cruise Ships Casinos Act 2013 (the "Act") to appoint the commencement day of the Act as 1st January 2014.
The Act prohibits the operation of a casino on a cruise ship berthed in a designated port unless that person has applied for and has been granted a license by the Commission.
The Commission's remit was expanded in August 2021 to include all forms of legal gambling on the island, which now includes:
- Casino gaming (Gaming Act 2014)
- Betting shops (Betting Act 2021)
Cruise Ships Casinos Amendment Act 2021
The assent of the Governor was given on the 28th day of November 2021 to the Cruise Ships Casinos Amendment Act 2021. This amendment extends the operating hours of cruise ship casinos.
Currently, casinos on ships can only open between 9 pm and 5 am. The amendment will allow casinos to open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
